Pervez Malik:
An irreparable loss
The film goers, family and
friends all were shocked to hear the sad news of Pervez Malik’s passing away in Islamabad on 18th
November’2008.
Waheed Murad and we all friends
intimately called him “pozy”. On completion of film making course in California,
USA, Pervez returned to Pakistan, starting his career with a bang, in 1964 with Waheed
Murad’s two memorable films “Heera aur Pathhar” and “Armaan”. These two films had Waheed Murad
and Zeba, Masroor Anwar’s lyrics and my music. While “Heera aur Pathhar” did Golden Jubilee “Armaan”
broke all the previous records and turned out to be the first Pakistani film that did Platinum Jubilee earning country’s
prestigious “Nigar Awards” for The Best Picture, Best Director, Best Music Composer, Best Male Singer and Best Song “Akele and jaana”. Soon after this Pervez and I jointly produced yet another landmark
musical “Do Raha”. From here onwards Pervez went into independent
production. He produced and directed 24 films winning Awards and Appreciation.
Pervez was a very jovial
person. His films will always be remembered for he had a message in almost each one of them, Anmol, Pehchaan, Qurbani, Meherbani,
Saughaat, Mere Humsafar being some of them. For the past few years as we learnt, he was not enjoying good health. The man
who worked so hard and earned so much appreciation from the masses quietly left on November 18th’2008. Creative artistes always mature with time, and failures and successes
in their life, only help them reach the top: Pervez Malik, Waheed Murad, Mohammad Ali, Santosh Kumar, Guru Dutt, Mehboob Khan,
Khawaja Khursheed Anwar, Naushad and Raj Kapoor being some of them.
It is our humble prayer may
Allah rest Pervez’s soul in heaven and at this juncture, we offer our heartfelt condolences to Pervez Malik’s
family in particular. May Allah grant his family and friends patience and courage to bear this irreparable loss. - Sohail
